~Euterpe~
Your muse is Euterpe, the Giver of Pleasure.
Contrary to what I'm sure your mind has just
leapt to (get it out of the gutter!), she is
the muse of Music. Her symbol is the flute.
You like most kinds of music, and like to sing
and probably compose a little bit when you're
alone.

Quizilla I wanted to acknowledge that yesterday was the fifteenth anniversary of the
murder of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her daughter, faculty and staff of the University of Central America, by members of the (United States-backed) Salvadoran military.
I was at Swarthmore College, already protesting U.S. policies in Central America; I had just returned from a summer of study in Colombia. These killings galvanized activism on our campus. They also seared my soul in a way I'm not sure I can explain even now.
I went to El Salvador on a study tour in 1993. We visited the spot on the UCA campus where it had happened, but it was too glancing a visit--I remember feeling grief, but tamping it down. Why should I indulge in sorrow, when what is needed is ongoing action? What right do I have to mourn--when what I should be feeling is shame on behalf of my country?
"Pray for the dead, fight like hell for the living." Thanks, Ma Jones. I need to remember that. So many have died since then. I owe it to all of them--and to
those eight martyrs of 11/16/1989--to live and work for an earth restored.
