Luckilly, no one seems to notice us as we walk. I feel like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, marching at the end of a line with our elbows linked. We eventually make our way up the path and through the arch of the front door. We enter a cavernous marble room with sculptures and large regal paintings. Roy, one of my walking partners, leads us towards a large clump of people on the left. He slips out of my arm and begins conversing with a short boy.
"Who's he talking too?" I ask Clark.
"Don't know, what does he look like?" Surprised as I am by this question, I reply,
"Umm, well he's kinda short and has dark hair. Oh wait, I think he's a teacher." Sure enough, the boy turned around and I noticed that he had a large bow tie moustache and was wearing an elegant tuxedo. He looked like a circus ring leader. Roy, who was now smiling at us and pointing yelled,
"Remundo! Clark! Get over here." We push our way through the crowd and come face to face with the funny looking man.
"Good morning!" The man smiles and his eyes twinkle next to his severe dimples and smile lines. "I'm Sir Bigginz, the headmaster at Wimblelonston. Roy tells me that you are new here."
"Yeah, I'm Remundo."
"A pleasure to meet you Remundo." He grabs my hand and gives it a firm
shake. "Would you please come with me to the atrium." Clark lets go of my arm and I follow Sir Bigginz down the hall and into a larger room with a chandelier and multiple staircases leading out of it.
"Welcome to Wimblelonston. Roy tells me you're from out of the country."
"Well, yeah, I'm from New York."
"Excelent, we always support foreign students. Now, I don't usually give introductions like this, but since you are a new student who is not joining us at the kindergarten age, I think it is quite appropriate.
"You don't have to..."
"Now, now, It's perfectly alright. The school is devided by grade. You sir are sixteen years old and will be entering the tenth grade. There are twelve grades all together, so you will not be staying long. There are five groups of student studies, English Departement, Dramatic Department, Music Departement, Art Department and Academics Department. You can choose to take classes from all departments, but must take atleast three from the academics. The other four can be mixed and matched. I suggest you don't pick a favorite department like most students do. It is important that you try new experiences, and don't stick to one form of learning. But then again that is only a suggestion." Sir Bigginz did a little bob on the heels of his feet and continued. "The building is not the easiest to get around in." He gave me another grin. "The classes are not organized in any particular fashion so..." He lifts something from his pocket. "This map will come in handy. There will be an all school assembly in the auditorium at ten. Lunch is served in the Dinning hall at noon, tea is at four and dinner is at six. Classes end at four, if you like you can leave for home after tea, or you can stay for dinner with the over nighters. Here is your schedule, and map. Enjoy the rest of your day." Bigginz did a wave of the hand and waltzed off in the other direction, whistling to himself.
I immediatly scan my schedule.
