girls' night reaction post

Only two people were bad tonight: Katie and Paige. I hope Katie goes home because she's yet to do one really good performance, but her dewy eyes and many long weeks of producer pimpage might save her undeservedly. Paige obviously has a good voice, but suffers from Chooses the Wrong Song Syndrome, and had a criminal surfeit of screentime during the early episodes, so she might go home.

If one of them is safe, the one probably going home is Lacey, although I LOVED her this week. I looooove Brandi Carlile and I think Lacey did a great cover. I am going to buy that shit on iTunes the second it goes up. That being said, this is the only performance Lacey's had that was good, and her previous two were in fact laughably bad, so if she went home I wouldn't be upset or surprised. But despite her trainwreck performances in previous weeks she's still here, so she's clearly got a voting base. So based on that, I don't see her going on a high note.

Wasn't impressed by Katelyn or Lilly. Katelyn I think has got the potential to deliver some really amazing performances in the future if she can get her act together. I think she's got a beautiful tone to her voice, but I have not been impressed with any of her arrangements yet. Also, girl needs to stop with the bitchfaces during her critiques. Lilly... hm. I just don't know. I like her vibe and her overall style, but I kind of had the realization tonight that she's got a total inability to emotionally connect with her songs. She sang A Change is Gonna Come and Pieces like these songs are happy strummy ditties. Uhhhh.... no. So until I can see some believable emotion behind her, I'm wary.

Speaking of people I'm wary of: Didi. Loved her this week. Great performance. I'm still not sold on her as a person, as some of the stuff she's done had been pretty off-putting for me personally, but that was a kickass performance and I loved it. Stop trying to sing without your guitar, girl. It doesn't work.

Siobhan: I had CHILLS during the beginning of that. IDK what Simon was smoking, but he needs to stfu. He thought last week's was better, which, lol no. Loved it, love her. Also, she looked GORGEOUS tonight. Prettiest little space cadet.

Crystal: My girl! *_* Great voice, good musicality, very professional, great stage presence, knows who she is as an artist, but I doubt she'll win and she might not make the finale. For one thing, she'll probably suffer from Melinda and Adam's problem in that she's so good going into it that there's not really any room for her to grow, and at the end of the day this IS a tv show, the audience likes a narrative arc. (Katelyn I think has the potential for a good narrative arc) Also, as I think Archie and Adam have also proved, being the judges' favorite doesn't do you any favors. The other thing the audience likes is an underdog. So I bet Crystal is going to be incredibly consistent, have a bunch of really great performances, and then go out at Top 3. (As long as she stays in good health D: I noticed that they didn't make her stand for the judge's critiques, which, DDDDD: GET BETTER SOON)

All that being said, Crystal is my favorite. She is the exact type of artist I listen to. So no matter where she places, she's talented enough that eventually she will make an album and I will buy it and listen to it on repeat for days. So I've already made my peace with the "shocking early boot" that I can already see coming.

Final verdict:
Bad: Katie and Paige
Eh: Katelyn and Lilly
Good: Lacey, Didi, Crystal, Siobhan

Also, yay for the season of female singer-songwriters \o/ I like it. Although, lol, not eager to listen to the boys sing tomorrow, especially now that boring-but-pretty John Park is gone.
