There's so much knowledge in the world, so much to know and so much to see. He learns it all, seeks out all of it. Music, math, art, literature, engineering, science. Especially science. Especially physics. He wants to know how the world works, he wants to know why the world breaks, why the sky is blue, why the grass is green, why blood is red, how the universe came to be, how time works, why people die.

Why she had to die.

He soaks it in, he's like a sponge. He remembers everything that everyone has ever taught him, told him, said to him or sung to him. He remembers lyrics, formulas, books, television, pop culture, equations, pictures. It comes out in the wash. Written down on paper, white boards, skin and cloth. On walls in the middle of a class that he was supposed to be conducting, he tried to rewrite theoretical equations. Wormholes, blackholes, quasars, pulsars.

He doesn't listen when his father tells him to slow down, when he scares his roomate by tearing apart their television in the middle of the night and rebuilding it for a clearer picture. He turns down ideas for thesis topics, job offers, dates, scholarships, shakes his head when people ask him to apply to NASA, ESA, for the ISS.

He doesn't need to go to space, space is all around him. Running through him. His head is full of stars, full of theory, full of lasers and personal demons. And then-

Then

Then, he meets a girl.
