This morning I got my beta access key to the Good Old Games website. I’ve been looking forward to this as the games that they are planning to offer will be low priced PC games that are DRM-free and will run on XP & Vista (as you can see above). The initial catalogue is mostly Interplay and Codemasters games, and I already own most of the games available, but the sweet thing about the beta is that if you buy 1 game, you’ll get 1 free if you signed up for the early beta before Sept 8th (which I did).

Game prices are roughly $5.99 for one game and $9.99 for a “pack”. For example, both Fallout and Fallout 2 are $5.99 each, but bought together as a “pack” the total is $9.99 for both, which is a FANTASTIC deal. Some older packs are only $5.99 such as the Descent 1+2 pack.

The current games catalogue is:
  • Die by the Sword + Expansion
  • Earthworm Jim 3D
  • Shattered Steel
  • 1nsane
  • Fallout
  • Fallout 2
  • Fallout Tactics
  • Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
  • Invictus:Shadow of Olympus
  • Kingdom: Life of Crime
  • Descent + Descent 2
  • Descent 3 + Expansion
  • MDK
  • MDK 2
  • Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
  • Giants: Citizen Kabuto
  • Messiah
  • Evolva
  • Freespace + Expansion
  • Freespace 2
  • F/A-18E Super Hornet
  • Original War
  • M.A.X. + M.A.X. 2
  • Sacrifice
  • Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business.
  • Hostile Waters: Anteus Rising
  • Perimeter
  • Conquest of the New World

I an heartily recommend Fallout, Lionheart, Freespace, Sacrifice, and Jagged Alliance 2 to anyone looking for some great and cheap games to kill some hours. I’ve spent a lot of time playing these games, and they’re oodles of fun.
