So yeah, after dropping over $100 on books at Borders this afternoon I mowed the lawn.
(Although I am all for independent bookstores, I love Borders. It is like a haven of books...air conditioned, the wonderful smell of books everywhere, good coffee, and lots of other nerds there too, especially in the sci fi/fantasy section. Mostly boy nerds...oh, and I also got a Frappachino to celebrate the end of the un-sexy-publishing-company-summer.)
So I suck at mowing the lawn. Every time I try to do even lines I miss spots and give it what look like little mohawks. (Or "mow-hawks" mwahhahahahahahaha...er...sorry...where was I? Oh yes...)
So I have to drive the tractor over the same area like six or seven times until all the grass is even. And then I look back, and there's still a mohawk or two of long grass in the lawn, which I leave.
Due to my "it's good enough" philosophy, which I reserve for house- and yardwork, I also don't bother to move things off the lawn before mowing it. I mow around stuff. Fallen logs, beach chairs, toppled trash cans, rocks, branches, a frisbee, discarded beer bottles.
Actually, the effect is rather artistic...the patterns of this stuff become "etched" in the lawn through the medium of longer grass. So to speak.
Either that or our white trash lawn is giving the finger to all of suburbia...Yeah suburbia, take THAT.
