My very bad day at work

Aug 06, 2007 11:24

I wanted to share this with all of you because your cat people and you'll understand where I'm coming from...I hope.  Today is the Civic Holiday and we are closed at work.  My Dr. is on vacation and our temp Dr wont be in until Tuesday.  Last Monday we had a cat come in that was very sick, sepsis in her kidneys or something like that.  Anyway, I came into work on Thursday and saw her and thought "wow thats one sick kitty".  She was a little brighter on Friday morning, but by the end of the day she was looking rough.  I was sure I would come in Saturday to a dead cat, but low and behold she was alive and sitting up!  By the end of the day we were back to unresponsive flat out tying to dye.  Sunday I came in again expecting this kitty to be dead, but she wasn't.  She was laying on her side take quick painful breaths.  I called the Dr and left her a message, but by the time she called me back the cat was breathing normal and sitting up.  I was toldl to reduce her fluid rate and try and keep her comfortable.  Again this morning I was expecting her to be dead but she wasn't.  She is however as close to being dead with actually being dead.  She was laying on her side taking slow painful breaths and urinating on herself.  I'm not sure if she was having seizures or was just uncomfortable and trying to move.  I'm not comfortable calling the owner and letting her know, nor am I actually aloud to do this.  I thought about calling my Dr to see if she wanted to call the owner and let her know the state of her cat.   My delema is  do I ruin my Dr's holiday over this and ruin the owners day, or do I just let it go.  There is really nothing we can do for this cat at this point but euthanize it.  I have to go back to work tonight and feed the cats and check on her.  I'll probably go early and sit with this cat (if she is still alive) for a while.  I just wanted to share my shitty day with someone...sorry didn't mean to put a damper on yours.
