Drabble: Crazy Little Thing Call Love (Scorpius/Rose)
Title: Crazy Little Thing Call Love

“You want to do what?” Scorpius doesn’t really shriek it, but it is very close. “Are you going out of your mind?”
Rose frowns at him and her shoulders slump slightly and it takes all of Scorpius’ restraint not to just give into the girl already when she murmurs sadly, “Does that mean you won’t come with me, then?”
‘The hell I won’t’, Scorpius thinks.
“Of course I won’t go with you!” is what he says instead. “To be honest, I’m not sure if you should be going there too. We’re trained to be healers, not dragon tamers!”
She shrugs. “How different can it be?”
Scorpius wants to pick her up and shake sense into her. He doesn’t do so, choosing instead to glare at her. “For starters, you don’t know anything about dragons and you haven’t had the professional training or the experience for the job. For Salazar’s sake, Rose, do you even know what you’re doing?”
Rose sighs. “I just thought that it’d be nice to try something different.”
“You could try working in a different hospital,” Scorpius snaps, “Wanting a change of scenery does not mean that you have to go to Romania and die.”
Her eyes narrow sharply. “You have no faith in me.”
It’s not a question but Scorpius answers her with a nod anyway.
“You don’t have to be mean about this,” she hisses, “All I did was to ask if you wanted to come along with me.”
‘I’d go anywhere with you, even if it’s just to keep you safe,’ is what he wants to say.
“If you go there, you’d die within the first week, Rose!” he blurts out instead because he can’t tell her that he wants to be with her because she is just going to reject him and he’s just going to end up with a broken heart.
Rose’s face falls. “You really don’t think I can do it, can you?”
He nods.
It isn’t true, though. He is almost sure that she would be able to pick things up really quickly but he doesn’t want her to leave St. Mungo’s. If he lets her leave, she’ll probably never come back.
“You shouldn’t go,” Scorpius tells her, his voice considerably softer than it was.
“But I want to!” Rose insists.
“Good Merlin, woman,” Scorpius roars, “Aren’t you scared?”
She blinks up at him. “Of what?” she asks.
“I don’t know.” He runs his fingers through his hair. “Of not being able to fit in, of not doing the job well enough, of missing your family, of being away from friends…” he trails off.
‘Of us never seeing each other again’ is left unsaid.
She startles as if only just seeing Scorpius’ point but the shock on her face lasts just mere seconds. “If I don’t do this now, Score, I won’t ever do this again. I have to do this.” Rose stares into his eyes earnestly. “I would really prefer to do this with you beside me, but I won’t push it if you don’t want to. All I ask is that you respect my decision and wish me good luck in Romania.”
‘I want to go with you’ lies at the tip of his tongue. He swallows the words and forces himself to smile.
“I- I wish you all the best.” It sounds stiff even to himself but Rose doesn’t indicate that she notices.

It takes all of three days for him to crack.
And half a day for him to get sober.
Finally another three days for him to procure an International Portkey to Romania.

He notices that she isn’t surprised to see him there.
“Took you bloody long enough,” is all Rose says before she lungs at him, enveloping him in a tight hug. “One week is a very long time. I almost went back to drag you here.”
Scorpius’ lips twitches up in a grin. “I’m sorry to have disappointed you.”
She grins. “It doesn’t matter,” she tells him, “You came in the end, after all.”
When he kisses her, he is pleased to realize that she isn’t surprised.
