When Hermione Granger walked into her apartment after a long day at work, the last thing that she would have expected to see was Draco Malfoy lounging on her couch and reading her book, with Crookshanks curling up beside him, looking for all intents and purposes like it was an everyday occurrence.

“Malfoy?” The question in her voice was obvious. Whilst she had known him to be rather clingy to her at work -lack of intelligent conversation at the workplace, obviously-, this was the first time he’d ever shown up at her place, invited or not.

He looked up at her and smirked. Holding up the thin volume of book in his hand he commented, “Interesting choice of reading materials, Granger.”

“I doubt you came to my apartment to comment about my reading materials,” she said sardonically.

“Well, no,” he admitted, giving her a one-shouldered shrug, “But since I’m here, why not?”

“What are you doing here?” Hermione asked and then as if suddenly thinking of it, she added, “And how did you bypass my wards?”

“Not important and irrelevant,” he waved off both questions easily, before waving the book at her again, “Why are you reading this book?”

Hermione’s brows furrowed, “What book?”

“‘Black is the Colour of My True Love’s Hair’,” Draco answered according, “Is that what you think?”

Hermione’s jaw went slack. Was he really going to discuss books with her right now instead of answering to her questions? She had at least three locking charms on her door and several wards to ensure that no outsider would be able to enter. How in the name of Godric did he manage it?

Before she was able to say anything, Draco’s eyes went wide suddenly. “Oh Sanctimonious Salazar,” he suddenly found it hard to breath, “Is that it?”

“Is what it?”

“You are in love with Saint Potter,” he breathed. How could he have missed this? He always thought it would be Weasley but Potter. Oh, good Merlin. Weasley he could most definitely handle, but Potter! Potter. “How long have you been in love with him?” Draco demanded.

“I- What?” Hermione wasn’t sure that she’d heard him correctly. Was Malfoy actually accusing her of being in love with Harry? What was wrong with him?

“Yes,” Draco said flatly, “I figured it out. You can spill it all out now.”

“You’ve gone barking mad, Malfoy, barking!” Hermione managed to get out.

“So you’re not in love with Potter?” A glimmer of hope had been restored.

“No!” she whacked him on the head, hard, “What is wrong with you?”

Draco let out a sigh of relief then tensed up almost immediately. “Then who is the ‘true love’ in this book?”

“It’s nobody! It’s just a book, Malfoy!” she spluttered.

“Are you sure?” Draco asked concernedly, running his fingers loosely through his hair, “Do you have a special preference for black hair on men?”

Hermione rolled her eyes. “No. I told you, it’s just a book.”

Draco grinned. “Good,” he said cheerily, “I was scared you would get ideas. I’m not dyeing my hair black.”

Hermione snorted. “Whoever wanted you to?”

He slung his arm over her shoulders. “Come on, Granger, we can discuss how much you want me over dinner. I’m starving.”

Hermione rolled her eyes and wondered why she put up with him.
