The Closer and Burn Notice: Both had finales that were strong individual episodes. Burn Notice felt more like a finale than The Closer but whatever. I liked them enough to keep following them all summer.
Psych. I was a little less enthusiastic about this show this season. Maybe it's because they seemed to go a little harder to the kitsch than last season (where it seemed more incidental). I noticed that while I couldn't wait for the show to be on last season, I almost didn't notice when I missed an episode (and had to watch on tivo). Possibly it was also because my evening schedule was a little crazier this summer. I did love the SWAT appearance and Sean's interaction with the negotiator in the finale. Hilarious. I'm also amused that CBS is ripping off this show and calling it The Mentalist. I'm 99.99% sure I won't be watching THAT.
True Blood. So far I'm really liking this series, painful southern accents notwithstanding. And it's a little weird but it seems like Anna Paquin is working harder than she needs to at being vulnerable. Strange. It also makes me want to go back and read the books, something that not every adaptation does.
Fringe. So far I'm completely underwhelmed. Possibly if they were going after an Xfiles vibe, they shouldn't have made this a team from Homeland Security. The reason the Xfiles worked (aside from chemistry) is that everyone knew Fox was a flake and no one believed any of that shit. By trying to make this stuff seem more accessible, and not giving their characters any conviction of disbelief which is being overcome, it makes it less intriguing. I mean, if your characters seem only mildly curious about how this stuff works then you can't expect me to be shocked/surprised/scared. The more I'm typing, the less likely I think it is I'm going to watch it anymore.
House. The premiere is exactly what it should have been.
Supernatural. I like this show. I like the plot twists/devices it looks like they're going to use this season. I did not like Dean reaching across a table to hit a female demon in the face (unprovoked). As I said elsejournal, I don't get too worked up about fan wank and in most situations that have involved one of the boys smacking up a female, she's been a demon and typically the agressor (or one of) and that's how my suspension of disbelief embraces it. This was creepy because it reminded me of a domestic violence awareness commercial. They're sitting there talking and he just reaches out and pops her. Really, really DO NOT LIKE. I'm hoping that the big twist at the end is going to lead to some interesting character development. I'm still excited about the show but that one scene made me uncomfortable for the rest of the episode. Otherwise, I laughed, loved the music, and liked the boys together again.
