Today the school I do my practicum requirements in every week went on a field trip to a pumpkin farm so i tagged along. sounds like fun...right? i was so excited (which ended up being my first mistake....why do i set myself up for disappointment?). We got there and it was misting....and continued the entire time we were there! luckily, being overprepared as always, i had a raincoat that i could put over my wool peacoat and stayed relatively warm. We started in a corn maze and my group got LOST! oh man....it was raining....we couldnt find the exit....it was scary. finally a search party was sent. why did the teachers trust me with kids in a maze to begin with??? at the end i got one of those cute little tiny pumpkins though...which is now outside my door and will be my only halloween decoration. The kids then ran around and made scarecrows and whatnot.....i stayed in the shelter as much as i could.
also....i made a mistake on the bus today....i was sitting next to a little first grader (haha....we got to ride the bus and not burn our own gas!) and wanted to start reading some homework. i shouldnt have been so optimistic....a school bus full of screaming little kids is no place for homework....but anyway, i attempted it. and i felt sorry for this little girl next to me because everyone else had little friends to talk to and i tried talking to her....but she mumbled a lot and i couldnt make out what she was saying.... so i gave her one of my notebooks and a pen so she could at least doodle on the 45 min trip and i could do my best to read. no sarah.....do NOT give a little kid a "toy" unless you want 5 other kids to ask for the same thing. i was not about to hand my notes around the bus to be destroyed so i put all school related material away and spent the rest of the trip cracking the kids up by playing stupid when they'd give me bunny ears. side note: a joke with little kids never dies....ever....even when you want it to.
i think despite the raincoat i'm getting sick from today. those poor kids are probably all going to be coughing and sneezing tomorrow.
