Kenton and I usually head out for berries about this time a year. We've been to two spots already with very little luck. They were both rather over picked

Oh my! What to do in AK. So many many things. Luckily a huge amount of things most people would want to see are very accessible by car. The only downfall is a lot of rental places don't want you to drive off the paved roads. So really the best thing is to know someone in Ak... which luckily you actually do. :D Plus the 'out of towner' rules don't apply when you are with a local! (As far as I'm concerned anyway)
If nothing else here are the things we did when the last couple of people visited.
Up through Hatcher Pass (where we went for blue berries). It's a very beautiful trip and you can see some of the old gold mines up there. Talkettna. A super cute tiny town where you can see Mt. Mckineley (when it's out from behind it's clouds). It's also the town that the show "Northern Exposure" was very very loosely based off of. Then down the Seward Highway. There are a few places you can gold pan that way AND it's suppose to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world. Honestly... it really IS. Then down to Seward. Also a small town but the drive up through the pass (different pass) is beautiful. Seward is SUCH a cute lovely town. We'd live there if there was any chance we could afford it. Not enough land and no jobs. A MUST is one of the cruises from there around all the coves and a stuff. You get to see whales, seals, otters, puffins... all kinds of things.
Those are the nearby things to Anchorage that you could do in a week-ish. By nearby I mean Seward is about 4 to 5 hours from Anchorage.
Sadly there is about a MILLION things to do and that MUST be seen in Alaska. Honestly it's expensive to do almost everything and this state is so spread out you can't see everything.
These are things you can do from around May to September. If you wanted the berry picking experience obviously now is the time.
Although a lot of people think I'm crazy for even suggesting this, Alaska is just as beautiful in the winter. Plus the only time you can see the northern lights (a VERY must see) is in the Winter.
That's just the tip of the iceberg!!
I suppose it is kinda silly to be picking while raining and messed up, but it is one of the few "fun" things I can still really do. But trust me... the Jam/Jelly is SO much better than you'd think. I'll even send you some. :D
Thanks fot the tipps. I'm seriously considering Alaska for my vacation next year. But it's together on a list with Australia, New Zealand, Southafrika and a Antarktis Cruise. So not sure if it will happen in the end. *gg*
