Snow.... Attempt number 3

Well... cutting and pasting isn't working so I thought I'd just type it here... it's short enough.

Lily watched as the snowflakes died their quick watery deaths on her skin. Well, she was still warmer than the snow; that was something.

She tucked her hand back under her arm and pushed on. The world around her was white and she'd long ago stopped trying to figure out up from down, left from right. Just lifting each foot and pulling it forward seemed to be working. More or less anyway.

Lily's lungs were burning but she was grateful for the numbness that had overcome most of her, the pain had been horrible. First in her fingers and toes, like barbed wire tangled around them. Then blades of fire up her legs and down her arms. The only parts of her that didn't feel numb now were her lungs and heart. Her lungs that burned and her heart that beat in her like an angry drum.

A unfeeling foot stumbled and Lily found herself on her face. Slowly she pulled herself up to her knees then back up, trying to work on automative and not think about what direction she should be moving. She's been down more times than she could count.

Before dragging forward again Lily turned to look the direction she thought she'd come from.

Nothing, just white, everywhere around her white. She didn't even see any marks showing where she had been. With no more thought she pulled a foot forward.

She'd always loved the snow, always been excited to see the first flakes fall. She'd run into the snow and turn her face up to the sky so they could fall on her cheeks and forehead. For hours she'd watch as it fell, washing the world clean, making it pure. It covered every flaw in a blanket of beautiful white.

Again a numb foot stuck and again she fell to her face.

Tired, she thought, so tired. She could no longer remember why she was walking, how she'd ended up so far into the snow, why it was important to keep moving.

Slowly she turned her head and her eyes caught on her hand. A snow flake lightly landed on her skin, followed by another and then another. Covering her skin in a sprinkling of white. The snow was making her pure, wiping her clean.

Her name was Lily, and she loved the snow. Her eyes slipped closed.

This is a pretty raw version.. but here you go.
