Well, currently I am doing my final edits on Demon's Lexicon 3, otherwise known as The Demon's Desperate Quest For A Title. This round of edits is fairly light (Demon's Covenant got two very very in-depth rounds of edits, but I ascribe that to Ally Carter's great truth, The Second Book Always Kills You) but it is a little strange to be writing the end of the story for these characters. I've never written any characters for so much time, and never loved any so much: I hope everyone will think I give them a good ending!
But more on that, and the new things I'm writing, sometime closer to when you can see them! Now I shall tell you about all the times when you can see me.
Because I love travel and I consider it the best fun in the world to meet people who will talk to me about books, mine or otherwise, I love events. Pretty much my idea of the perfect life would be half events. (And half living in a castle in the sunshine writing with all my friends living in the castle with me. I don't ask for much...)
So, my adventures start in Ireland, very near to where I grew up, with the
Mountains to Sea Book Festival. Look at all those fabulous authors! What a wondrous literary weekend! What in the world am I doing there?
I have no idea, but I am thrilled to have been asked, and this is what I will be doing.
SATURDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER
Monster Mountains to Sea Children's Author Lunch
Royal St George Yacht Club
12:00 PM - 3:30PM
Me and sixteen other authors are going to talk about our books, our favourite books that aren't ours, and there will be prizes and also (if I know me, and sadly I do) Embarrassing Stories.
SUNDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER
4.30 Stage Appearance with Celine Kiernan, fabulous author of The Poison Throne
in the Dun Laoghaire Town Hall.
Event bookings can be made here. And then directly after that Mountains by the Seapalooza of literary loveliness, I go to do my part in the scintillating
Smart Chicks tour, of which I have spoken before. These are the Smart Chicks events I will be part of, in a variety of locations (I am especially excited for Mississippi. I have never been properly down South before):
September 15th, 7PM. The Refuge (13150 Memorial Dr). Hosted by BLUE WILLOW, Houston, TX
Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Alyson Noel, Holly Black, Sarah Rees Brennan, Margaret Stohl & Cassandra Clare
September 16th, 6 PM. Plantation Commons (105 Plantation Cove, Gluckstadt). Hosted by LEMURIA BOOKS, Jackson, MS
Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Alyson Noel, Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Jessica Verday & Sarah Rees Brennan
September 17th, 2010 7PM @ Scottsdale Civic Library Auditorium, hosted by POISONED PEN Phoenix, AZ
Melissa Marr, Alyson Noel, Kelley Armstrong, Holly Black, Sarah Rees Brennan, and Kimberly Derting
And finally on October 7th to the 10th, I will be part of the
Sirens conference focusing on adventurous women characters and awesome women authors, in Vail, Colorado. I will be doing one panel about feminism, and one panel about the Golden Age of YA, and afternoon tea signings! And much more importantly, Holly Black, Marie Brennan, Ellen Kushner, Malinda Lo, Cindy Pon, Delia Sherman, Sherwood Smith, Janni Lee Simner, Mette Ivie Harrison, Samantha Henderson, Rachel Manija Brown, and Terri Windling will all be there. Plus editors and other squillions of exciting people. So it looks like lots of fun, and I will be needing someone to sit with at the panel for female friendships in fantasy.
And later today, I am using Skype to talk with a book club! Wish me luck on not spoiling them for the third book...
