So I just finished reading Mockingjay about five minutes ago. I know I'm a little late on this one, but I had to get the books back from a friend and then reread them.
What I'd really like to know if if we were supposed to think Katniss loved Peeta? Because one of my friends thought we weren't supposed to, that it was meant to be a bit of a tragedy in that sense, but I got the impression Collins wanted us to think it was real. (Which, as you know, I didn't see either!)
That would be an interesting spin on it all. That she just went with Peeta because it was the easiest thing to do. But I doubt that was the intention. I was reading a review today that pointed out how obvious Collins made some parts of the story when they might have worked a bit better more subtly. I think if that was the case, there would have been a page or so of Katniss talking/thinking about it.
But then I felt like she didn't really hammer us over the head with Katniss' feelings about Peeta in the other direction, either? I just felt really unclear about it.
