white bread with a side of white
It just occurred to me that everyone in my office is white. Weird.
Weird that this hasn't even crossed my mind since September, when I started working here, but yep, everyone from the exec director on down to the AmeriCorps members is white. Not so next door, in our Habitat ReStore which shares our building, and not so on the construction site, and not so among our office or construction volunteers, nor among our partner families (actually, there's something I can't quite articulate about this office not having a Spanish speaker before I worked here, and having a bunch of Spanish-speaking families, I don't know, I just know it's off).
But the people who are employed in this office every day? Whiter than white. All the directors (Construction, Volunteers, etc.) are white - well, the ReStore director is German, but doesn't that count as white? And you can bet your ASS I would've noticed this sooner if I was A. not white, myself, or B. they were all _______ and I was my white self.
