It's been a while since I've last posted. So long in fact that my choice of breakfast food has now undergone a change. All through my childhood I turned up my nose at this food, but now I am obsessed about it.. it is, oatmeal! As the seasons have been changing, waking up when it's dark, cold and normally pretty rainy outside, a nice steaming bowl of instant oatmeal really hits the spot. It is even portable, so I can bring it to work and make it there if I'm running a bit behind. I have messed it up at work due to the unfortunate lack of disposible bowls at Amazon. (Once I made a kind of oatmeal sludge by trying to make it in a cup and adding too much hot water) I had been making it with boiling water, but recently Greg showed me the joys of microwaving the oatmeal, and the texture is much fluffier that way.
Upcoming things I'm excited about:
-> My dad is coming up in a couple of weeks for the American Thanksgiving and we are going skiing at Whistler!
-> On Monday nights for the next 6 weeks I'll be taking a cooking course "Cooking for Busy People" with Graeme. Exciting topics include:
week 1: poultry
week 2: meats
week 3: fish & seafood
week 4: sauces
week 5: eggs
week 6: desserts
Apparently it is a demonstration class, and so we get little samples of everything the instructor will make. Lately I've been making the same old thing when I'm not traversing Lake Washington or going out for dinner, so hopefully this will be the incentive I need to start cooking interesting things again.
-> Lisa is visiting this week, and it will be fun to see her again and go out to some of the quintessential Seattle dining spots (oh, Cheesecake Factory ;) )
-> Christmas is coming so I get to go home, have a vacation and see my family and Ottawa friends :-)
