I am back from my whirlwind European adventure and it was amazing! More posts to follow about that I'm sure. Many thanks to Greg for being an amazing amicable travel companion, and most frequent carrier of the day pack ;)
We got back on Saturday evening, and for the past few days I have been struggling with my camera to get the trip pictures. It was very distressing as the new Kingston 2GB memory cards that we bought before the trip stopped recognizing between 1/3 - 1/2 of our pictures before I had loaded them onto my computer. My dad and I tried to bring the cards into a photo shop for data recovery, and the people told us all the pictures were completely gone (we didn't believe them since we could still see some through the camera). Eventually after many attempts with numerous recovery software, my dad was able to recover the pictures. I am incredibly relieved and grateful.
I would advise all you photo takers out there to be wary of new memory cards that you haven't tried out yet when taking a big trip, especially if they are big (ours were Kingston 2 GB cards) and your camera is older. It's funny how you buy something off the shelf from a known company and you expect it to just work, but this seems to be the dirty little secret of the memory card business. I think we still lost some pictures and videos but it is a relief to see the vast majority of them appearing now.
