For Juliet and Pauline.

One Thing as Big as the Sea
Sarah L. Carnes

Sono andatti,
She sang to you.
That beautiful bird you knew.
Many things to tell you.
Or just the one.
Big as the sea.
Ocean full of memories.

Mario sang to you in the night.
Fires in your hearts.
Together forever.
Or maybe never.
Many things to tell you.

Miserable woman.
Gone.
Cold as stone.
Stone to the head,
Stone to the heart.
Pebble dropped.
An awful racket.

Pauline, what did you do?
What did you do?

Many things to tell you.
Or just one thing.

Your world alone.
She was there.
Still waiting.
Ghosts through the halls of the past.
Do you still remember me?

Waiting for the day.
The world returns.
Sono andatti rings from the tombs.
Puccini and orange fizz drinks.
Never walk alone.
Together forever.

So many things to tell you.
Or just one thing.

Or just one thing.
