Do you believe in miracles? YES!!!

I had several things I wanted to post yesterday, but LJ was down for a while so I couldn't. I'll say them now.

First off, here was my horoscope yesterday:
Aquarius
(Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
An impulse turns into the basis for something long lasting when you take a step back and see its full potential. Sometimes acting on a whim can set wheels in motion and take you on the next leg of your journey.

I immediately read that as this running impulse will turn into the basis for something long lasting and very good for me. I see that as a good sign, don't you?

Continuing on the subject of running, I went out yesterday to acquire some necessary gear. I went to a store called Raleigh Running Outfitters and had a shoe assessment. The salesperson, who is a runner himself, watched me walk around without my shoes on and determined that I am not overpronating or underpronating. I tried on several shoes in the moderately cushioned level of support and they felt amazing. He suggested going a half size up to give me more room in the toe box, and I got to run up and down the sidewalk outside, testing the different pairs. The end result is that I'm the proud owner of a pair of blue, white and crazy reflective silver Nike Air Zoom Percepts. I never thought that going a half size up would make such a difference, but it really does. My foot was secured inside these shoes, but it felt like no part of it was touching my foot other than the sole. Apparently that's a good thing. The salesman said that often your running shoes will be the biggest shoes in your closet...these are 9 1/2s!
I also got a sports bra too...a good one! Let me tell you, back closure is a gift from God. I never thought getting into a sports bra could be so easy! Now I can put it on without pushing my shoulder out of its socket. I'm stoked.
Finally, the last piece of gear I got yesterday was a sports watch from target. I'm still figuring it out, but last night I was experimenting and found out how to set the countdown timer. So now I'm set for my first run TODAY!!!!

Last night I watched several great movies, two of which made me cry. The first was "Miracle". I love LOVE this movie and it always chokes me up a little bit. As election day nears, I really thought a lot about how the 1980 USA hockey team brought together a nation that was terribly unsatisfied with the quality of life, the political climate, etc. Bad things were happening world-wide and there was tension throughout. For a while, the entire nation focused on this hockey team and came together to cheer them on and celebrate that improbable victory against the USSR. I am ready for this nation to put aside its differences and focus on something that unifies all of us.

The other movie that made me cry was "The Notebook". I mean, seriously, is there a better love story than this? And all the while, I never feel like it's intentionally pulling heartstrings for a reaction. The ending is beautiful. I was crying buckets last night. (And I can do it whenever I want to because I bought it on sale for $10 at Target!)

OK, so I am off now to get ready for my run. My plan is to run for two minutes, walk 4 minutes, and repeat that sequence 4 times. I hope it will be easy for me, I'm expecting that it will. This is the sequence I do 4 four times this week. It's all part of the plan to get me to 30 minutes without stopping.
I'll let you know how it went later today.
