beach day!

I took the kids to the beach this morning with one of the girls from the playgroup (I shouldn't call her that anymore since I really just consider her my friend now) and her two boys. I was nervous because Weston isn't super keen on water or getting dirty and he has the tendency to run when he doesn't want to be involved in whatever is going on. At first, he balked and tried to run back up the boardwalk. But once I got the shovels and pails out, he was into it. He COVERED himself in sand. I mean covered. It was a bitch to wash out of his hair. Amelia kept saying "The beach is my FAVORITE! This is the BEST!" She spent most of the time in the water. He spent most of the time in the muddy sand.

Amelia was so good the entire time until we had to leave. She said, "I'm busy" when I told her that we had to go. But I convinced her to go without a tantrum by telling her we'd come back soon. We would have stayed out there longer, but when Weston was ready to go, we had to go. He kept running away from me, so I had to chase after him and leave Amelia where she was in the water. It just made me too nervous to leave her, even though she was very good and she knew her limitations. She's still 3.

The weather was PERFECT. Sun shining, a couple white fluffy clouds in the sky, mid 80s. Couldn't have asked for a better day for the beach.

Putting sand in the bucket...he did a lot of this

She kept this shovel in her hand the entire time

Sand fun!

Still with that shovel

Throwing sand with the shovel...and covering himself in sand

She was so good, she didn't go much further out than she is here...and I never had to tell her how far to go either, she just knew what was safe for her

The boys trying to make sand castles (Weston kept destroying them)

Dumping over the bucket to make his own sand castle

Splashy, splashy!

He seemed to enjoy getting dirty today
