Bed at 9, up at midnight. :\
I got Weston a hazelwood and baltic amber teething necklace. I put it on him and Doug said he was taking it off. No, I don't think so. He says babies aren't supposed to wear jewelry and that it will choke him overnight. Really? This necklace fits him well enough that there's no way for it to even twist or move, I don't see how it could possibly choke him. What's the point of having it if he can't wear it? Seems like overnight his teething is the worst, too. I don't know, this is my first go round at the amber teething necklace thing, so maybe I'm wrong here. Should I take it off at night? Google is torn. Tomorrow, I'll try to produce a picture of how it fits, if that makes any difference. But for tonight, he's wearing it.
I really hope it makes a difference. And it's supposed to help with acid reflux, too, which will be good. The kid is STILL spitting up often (not large amounts, but frequently). His reflux is so forceful that he even spits up solids. I took him off the Zantac a couple months ago, because it didn't seem to make any difference, even after increasing his dose to something more weight appropriate. It doesn't seem to bother him like it used to either. He still just spits up like a machine.
And since I have the time now, I'm going to document some stuff my kids are doing, because they are growing and learning so fast.
Weston at 8 months:
-He has his modified crawl down. He moves quick and he always gets to where he wants to go. I honestly don't think he'll ever officially crawl.
-He pulls himself up to stand! And attempts to cruise, but his little feet don't seem to want to cooperate with him. He even lets go, and he can stand for a few seconds before he either has to hang back on or plops himself down. He's pretty good at the butt landing, which is impressive. Amelia didn't have that down until she was 10 months or so.
-He claps! Sorta. I'll say YAAAAY WESTON! And he'll uncurl his chubby fingers and kind of slap the air until his hands slap each other. It's ridiculously adorable and I really need to get video documentation of this.
-He eats food! Okay, so he's always been an avid eater, but he eats things that I really wouldn't guess he could eat. He had some broccoli the other day and he nommed it up like a pro. And if you're eating where he can see you, you better be prepared to share! He does not take no for an answer. He's greedy about food.
-He's loud! Seriously, super loud. He doesn't say any words yet, but damn, the kid can babble and squeal.
Weston is just a jolly little man, most of the time. He also knows what he wants, and he wants it exactly when he wants it. Which often leads to him crying for awhile because with two kids, it's just impossible to always be attentive to his every whim at the exact moment he desires it. He's a big boy, and already trying to outgrow some of his 12 month clothes. I am amazed by this, because the growth chart says he's "average" sized, but clothes just don't fit him in his age range. Amelia was always RIGHT ON the money with her sizing (and still is), so this whole outgrowing clothes that he shouldn't even be fitting in yet thing is totally new to me.
Amelia at 23 months:
-She speaks in sentences! Like, big time. A one word response from her is pretty uncommon these days. Even a yes or no question is answered with "Yes, I want (whatever your asking for)." (for example)
-She says please/thank you (or thanks)/you're welcome ALWAYS. And it's really fucking cute. Even if I give her a sarcastic thanks as I'm taking away something she shouldn't have, she still says "you're welcome." The way she says thanks is exactly the way I say thanks. I know, how many ways can you say thanks? I guess you'd have to hear it to know what I mean.
-She counts! To five, without a hitch. To ten, on a good day (six always gives her a problem, but if she can get six after five, she's can count to ten with no problem).
-She knows some colors! Pink, red, yellow & purple, for sure. The other colors are hit or miss.
-She sings! She's always been a musical baby, but now she can sing a good handful of songs from top to bottom. Twinkle twinkle, ABCs (incorrectly, but she sings it!), Skinamarinky dinky dink, Yo Gabba Gabba songs, itsy bitsy spider, Elmo's song, etc.
-She knows some letters & numbers! Meaning, she can point them out. She even knows the letter sounds for A, B, M, & S.
-She cleans! Okay, before you call CPS for child labor, she loves to clean. She's always finding little bits of wrappers and crumbs here and there, and she'll run them off to the garbage can. She likes when I hand her diapers to throw in the trash. I think it gives her a sense of accomplishment. And when Weston barfs on the floor (like he does a million times a day), she'll even get a wipe out and try to clean it up. Such a good girl!
-She plays pretend! She's full on in pretend-play mode. She plays with her toys and acts things out. It's super cute.
Amelia is a busy, smart, independent little girl. She likes to play with bigger kids and she'll drive them nuts following them around. Poor Douglas has to deal with her all day. She always wants what he has, wants to do what he's doing & wants to go where he's going. She really thinks she's a big girl herself, I think. She loves to run around outside. She loves the water (Weston loves the water, too, for that matter). She's learning to swim, but not quite there yet. She loves to climb up the equipment at parks and go down slides. She's also still really into the swings, and she does pretty well on the big kid swings. She has days where she'll hardly eat a thing, and days where you can't feed her enough. Sometimes she's picky with food, sometimes not. She sleeps great and goes to bed without any trouble (although lately she's been staying up and hanging out quietly in her crib after I put her in there...which isn't a big deal, I guess). She still needs to nap once a day, but she's been trying to drop it for a couple months now. Mama says no. Haha, she's too grumpy without it. She's wearing 24m and 2T clothing (is there really any difference in the two sizes? I can't seem to find any), but they're kind of big on her. The 18m clothes are all too short, though, so the next size up will have to do. She's still in a size 6 shoe and has been for almost a year now. I am amazed at how much she's grown just in the last 6 months. Definitely not my little baby anymore!
