Working on my Manifesto

Mar 12, 2006 19:12

I have spent the whole of this weekend in my pajamas because I've done nothing but sleep and sit at my computer. I've been creating this really cool project for school which delves into almost all of my Norwegian musical interests: hardingfele playing, improvized singing, oral tradition and the step-by-step process of learning by ear (thank you CI!), vocal technique, warm-ups, vocal diction, transcribing tunes, re-composition and nyskaping, and to top it all off- explaining these spiffy things to other people!

The aim of this project is to instruct a singer in the art of creating an improvised song on nonsense syllables (called a trall) based on a hardanger fiddle dance melody (called a slått). It has started to take a sort of "instruction manual" form- and there is just so much to say. It feels so good to already have 13 pages of material that I know is good. It is all pouring out so effortlessly because of all the training I've had in the past. I feel really grateful to Olaf and NEC at this moment.

The downside is that I've been basically eating jam with spoons for meals and drinking a lot of coffee. So I decided to make myself a dinner tonight- salmon with creamy mushroom/veggie/herb sauce over rice with steamed vegetables- and it's all improvised from leftovers. No recipes here! I made too much, however, so if any of y'all want to come help me with it, my roommate is gone *sob*, so I could use the company
