My OBX vaycay!

Sorry this took so long to type up.  And sorry for no pictures yet.  I gotta read the manual for my new camera to see if there is anything special I need to do to upload them onto my computer XD.

Anyways, we tried to start out Sunday night, 4/1, but about an hour or so into our trip, when we pulled over to get gas and food, hubby's back brake could be heard grinding badly.  When he touched the hubcap, it actually burned him.  So we called to let my parents, who were already at the beach house, know what was going on.  We came back home that night.  We were just going to change cars and take mine, but I needed to get it inspected seeing as how it expired at the end of March...oopsie XD.  We decided to just get it inspected the next morning and go, figuring it was cheaper to get it inspected than to get hubby's car fixed XD.  We had gotten a check for overpayment on our escrow plus our state check, so we figured we could get his car fixed when we got back because by then our federal check should have gotten here.  It did XD.

Monday morning, it took a bit, but they finally got it in, and my car passed inspection.  We fueled up and put air in the tires, and off we went!  Usually, I go 81 to 64, but this time hubby suggested we go 95.  I'm glad we did!  It cut almost 2 hours off our driving time, not to mention the gas saved!  We left Winchester around 10 am, and we got down to Kitty Hawk around 3 pm.  Not bad at all!  We didn't do any sightseeing that day.  We just relaxed for the most part.  Mom and dad made a delicious dinner that night...meatloaf, pinto beans, fried potatoes, and cornbread. YUM!  Later that night, we went to Walmart.  Yeah yeah, I know, I work for them, why in the world would I want to go shop there on my vaycay XD.  Hey, cheap souvenirs, especially with my employee discount XD.

Tuesday, we ran up to the town of Duck to go through the shops there.  Mr. I was none too pleased. I guess he doesn't like shopping XD LOL.  We also ate up there on an open deck overlooking the sound. Very pretty!  Then we still had enough time to go see the Wright Brothers Memorial.  He seemed to like that better, although he fell asleep during both presentations XD LOL.  And I'm proud of myself.  I was able to walk up the big hill that the monument is on.  Mr. I bounced the whole way XD LOL.  Later that evening, mom, hubby, and I went to dinner.  Mr. I had enough of going out that day XD.

Wednesday was hubby and I's wedding anniversary.  We had planned on just taking Mr. I to the aquarium and then mom and dad were going to take him cuz of it being our anniversary.  But we were having too much fun together, and it had been awhile thanks to jobs and such for hubby, son and I to do stuff as a family.  We first went to Jeanette's Pier.  The original pier had been blown away by one of the more recent hurricanes.  The aquarium had bought it and rebuilt it.  It is beautiful!  They have a mini aquarium inside, and you can take a walk out onto the pier itself.  They ask for donations, but I didn't mind one bit.  And they use wind and ocean waves to create energy.  It was really neat.  We saw what appeared to be storm clouds coming in, so we decided instead of going to the aquarium first, that we would go to Fort Raleigh and Elizabethan Gardens first, since they are both outside.  At Fort Raleigh, he fell asleep once again in the little movie about the Lost Colony of Roanoke XD.  Hey, at least he was quiet XD LOL.  Then we walked the short way over the the Gardens, and gotten eaten up by mosquitoes XD LOL.  We bought some bug wipes along with our tickets.  The Gardens were in bloom and absolutely beautiful, but a bit after we left, my allergies started to act up XD.  We went to a used bookstore then went to get lunch.  We ate at Big Al's which is a 1950's/Coca Cola themed restaurant.  My parents called to see if we were ready for them to get Mr. I and I let them know we hadn't even gone to the aquarium yet XD.  After lunch of course, we finally made it to the aquarium.  Mr. I took us through, posing here and there.  He loves the otters and wanted to watch them, then wanted to show us "Patrick", which was in a touch tank ^^.  Then we went to the big aquarium room and watched the sharks for a few minutes.  As we were leaving the aquarium, Mr. I says, "Goodbye aquarium!  We will miss you!" <3<3<3.  Then we actually still had enough time to go the the Roanoke Island Festival Park.  By that time, Mr. I almost had enough, but he was still a good sport.  He went through the museum and even posed sweetly.  We even got him to swab the deck on the ship XD LOL.  Later that night, hubby and I went to Outback for our anniversary dinner.  Hubby didn't see anything showing at the theater that he wanted to see, so we didn't catch a movie, but that's ok.  The day was great!

Thursday, hubby and Mr. I stayed at the beach house while mom, dad, and I went to the thrift stores.  I love going there. I found some work pants for next to nothing, and even found some sterling silver jewelry, one of them stamped Tiffany and Co. on it, for less that $4!  Can't beat that considering the price of even silver is going up.

Friday, since we lost a day from having to come down Monday instead of Sunday night, we stayed and all went to Ocracoke Island, which you can only get to by car ferry.  We stopped at Bodie and Hattaras Lighthouses on the way down to the ferry landing.  Now for the past week the wind had been really high, and we were expecting a rough ride, but it was relatively smooth.  We ate at Howards Pub on Ocracoke, and stopped at a few shops.  I had a rough time cuz whatever was in bloom down there hit me full in the face thanks to the wind, and all I could do was sneeze and wipe my nose. I had to repeatedly apologize to the poor saleslady when I was purchasing something at one of the shops.  We drove by the British cemetery and the lighthouse. I took pics out the car window XD.  The ride back was smooth too and we saw why.  The ferry actually goes through the sound side and not the ocean side of the island.  When we got to an area where it was open to the ocean, the waves from the sound were cancelling out the waves from the ocean in spectacular fashion.  They would hit and spray upwards!  I've never seen anything like it.  It was beautiful!  I can't say much more for the trip past that as my mom found some benadryl in her purse and I slept the rest of the way back.  We ate at a place called Spankys that night.  They had two shirts with rather naughty innuendos on them.  Spankys mascot is a monkey XD, and one of the shirts on the back said, "Our meat can't be beat" XD, and the other, that I tried to get hubby to buy LOL, said " Master Baiter"...I love my innuendos XD

Saturday morning, hubby and I left to come home around 3:30 am, and had no trouble whatsoever getting home.  We got back to Winchester around 9 am, so that gave me a bit of time to sleep before I had to go to work that night.

It was a great week, even if I didn't get to set foot on the beach.  The one day it was warm enough, the wind and tide was so bad that there was no beach cuz the waves actually reached the dunes.  That's ok, I still got to see the ocean and smell it.  Plus, I was on vaycay, so I'm not going to complain ^^.
