Doctor Who - "The Big Bang" Reaction Post

The Good
  • The Doctor's dancing. It's so cringe-worthy. Actually, should it be under 'good'? Or should it be under 'bad'? Because it is bad. AND YET IT IS SO GOOD. So under 'good' it stays, because it was wonderful. He looked like a Macra.
  • The Lone Centurion. Oh, I cried. The shot of Rory sitting alone, holding his sword (or gladius as my History teacher would correct me), guarding the Pandorica was absolutely devastating. I just teared up, because he waited two thousand years. That kind of love is rare, and I know it's a show, but it's still beautiful.
  • The time jumps! Even though they'll also go under 'the bad' (but we'll come to that later), I did like how most things matched up: the drink, the mop, the, "Oh, hang on, you're right, I forgot to mention that bit" and the...the...well, this needs its own point.
  • THE FEZ. Haha, it's fantastic, probably because it's just so random. I loved how he randomly decided, "I wear a fez now." Damn Amy and River for collaboratively destroying it! I really hope he keeps his word - "I can buy a fez." PLEASE. YOU NEED ONE, DOCTOR. YOU NEED ONE.
  • Amelia Pond. She's wonderful. The resemblance is great - obviously - but I also think she does the part perfectly (especially since they mentioned in Confidential that she hadn't acted before). She's so sweet and so much like Amy - wow, really - and it was so sweet when she asked for a drink. I was sad when she stopped existing.
  • The Doctor revisiting his time line. That was sad. Just...his reactions to everything, the way he talked to Amelia, the way he was the other Doctor in Flesh and Stone (argh that was smart!), the way he seemed so...resigned to his fate. It was heartbreaking.
  • Something old, something new...that was so clever! I never realised how much it fit the TARDIS but it's absolutely perfect. Also, that was incredibly smart of the Doctor to think of that...I just supposed he hadn't counted on Amy only remembering it after the wedding started? (She was annoyed with him for being late, after all).
  • Amy's reaction to Amelia, judging the date by her hair and height. That was sweet. Although Amy did seem a bit mad when the Pandorica opened. That's crazy-mad, not angry-mad. She just looked mad. Which is strange because she hadn't been awake all that time, had she? She was only restored once the Pandorica opened. So. Mad.
  • Amy and Rory's reunion, after 2,000 years. Awwww. And the Doctor's reaction to it..."Break...breathe!" He just doesn't understand humans.
  • River is so bad-ass. "Where's the Dalek?" "It died." She's amazing. If she were a proper companion it would be amazing, because they're wonderful together, but then of course that would spoil the whole...River thing.
  • Rory and Amy are both companions now! I love it! Or at least I hope they're both companions, living out their married life on the TARDIS. I hope Rory doesn't leave the TARDIS or anything, that they're both proper companions. Even though Eleven and Amy were so cute together, she needs Rory now.
The Not-So-Good:
  • It was pretty confusing and paradoxical. Number one offender: Rory getting the Doctor out of the TARDIS. That was an endless time loop and while I appreciate that it worked, it is pretty much exactly the same as the chicken and the egg. Which came first?
  • They didn't tie up The Silence or the external force driving the TARDIS or why the TARDIS was set to explode in the first place. Which, the Moff said will be next series, but that's strange, dragging out a storyline over two series and made this finale seem a bit less resolved. Maybe that was the idea. We now absolutely have to see next series to see what happened with The Silence et al.
  • Where was the salsa band? In Vampires in Venice, Rory mentioned the salsa band and I saw none. Okay so that wasn't really a bad thing.
  • That's about it for the Not-So-Good things.
In short:
  • Wow, I loved it. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it wasn't annoying EPIC like RTD finales and it was emotional, properly emotional, not just pure angst like...RTD finales. I miss Doctor Who already.
  • This series has been, on the whole, fantastic. Sure, there were a few episodes that weren't the greatest, but the bad things don't always spoil the good things. And this series was full of good things.
