anyone know if it is possible to get a raging fever after hiking?

Chris and I went on a nice little hike today (about three miles) at this place called Cholla Heights Reservoir. We got back, I took a shower and lazed around a little and sat down to try to do some math homework when I started not to feel good. And then I got really bad, really quick. My temp shot up from it's normal
96.5 degrees to 100.8. I've been walking a lot these past couple of weeks and even made it back to the gym a few this this past week (each visit was about forty-five minutes) The only complaint I had was my chest hurt a little after I worked out...I just attributed it to the walking pnemonia I had a few weeks ago...anyways-
I laid down and went to sleep for three hours and woke up just as the fever was starting to break. I have a splitting headache and feel very weak.

Any thoughts on what could have caused this? Was it over exhurstion (sp?)?
I drank lots of water while we were out, and had on sunscreen but thankfully it was nicely shaded and not too hot.

Anyone know?
