Untitled Ficlet

I did the writing a snippet of a fic I'll never write meme, and hhertzof gave me:

The one in which Harry turns out to be a member of the Crimson Chapter (and recruited Will)

Since it's a great idea and I have too many things on the go as it is I'll probably never write any more on it, I thought I'd post the snippet here.

"How could you do it?" Sarah couldn't decide whether to be shocked or angry and had to settle for both.

"Well." He shrugged. "It was all true, wasn't it?"

She frowned. It was, in a way, but only for a certain value of true. And this didn't count, since the Crimson Chapter were using it to justify killing her. "How can you say that?"

"Because the aliens are trying to invade, you've seen it." He took a step towards her. She recognised it as an intimidation tactic and stood her ground, wondering if she'd ever really known Harry Sullivan at all. "You did tell me you went to Italy in the fifteenth century."

He was right, it was all her fault. But that didn't make what he did right. And to suck Will into it too, when he was just an innocent in all this. "Not all aliens are bad."

"Perhaps not." He didn't sound like he agreed with her, but she said nothing, not wanting to get into an argument about this when it was not the main problem at hand. "But I had to do what I thought was right at the time."

She shook her head. She had thought better of him than that. "And then you disappeared."

He sighed. "They were trying to kill me."

"They tried to kill lots of people. Including Will, and he didn't run away." She wasn't entirely sure about that last bit, but it sounded like the sort of thing they'd do. She would have tried to protect him if she'd had the opportunity, but then she had trusted Harry and look how misplaced that had been.

Harry clenched his jaw and folded his arms.

"Your brother was a better man than you." She shut the door on him as he tried to follow her. "I never want to see you again!" she shouted through it, and waited until she heard him move away before she slumped against it, unable to work out where it had all gone wrong.
