Meeting Russell Brand

Jul 28, 2009 16:16

Sunday I had the chance to be an extra in the film "Get Him to the Greek" starring Russell Brand and Jonah Hill, in which Russell Brand reprises his role of Aldous Snow. I arrived at Rockafella Plaza with Alyssa around ten and met up with my friend Lindsay.  We stood in the sections for non-paid extras to be part of the crowd for a  today show performance in the movie. The man directing the non-paid extras around, his name was Dutch, began to pull different groups of people to the front. The groups were as follows: child/young ones, hardcore (meaning tattoos and sadly i was not in that group), people who look like republicans (Dutch called it something else), and lastly the "I'd do anything for Aldous Snow" group, which I was picked for and took Alyssa and Lindsay with me. We soon found ourselves close to the gate seperating the extras and paid extras. Gradually we moved all the way to the front as people started living because they were tired of standing around and had already got their autographies from Russell. I got to see Russell up close, within 5 feet, four times and got to actually talk to three times. The first time he came into the extras crowd he was singing things and taking pictures with fans, it was dead silent and I yelled, "I love you!", which he responed with looking at me, smiling, and then laughing. The second time he came back after shooting I was able to snag a picture with him. I was shocked when he put his head against me, granted a women before me got a kiss a on the cheek, I was more then satisfied.

After that wonderful moment, he had to go back to shooting and we had to go back to being an excited crowd, which besides being dazed, I definitely was.  Then Russell gave us the details of the contest he was conducting through his Twitter and how we could win VMA tickets if answered the question he was going to ask in half an hour via tweet. Sadly I would not win, but the best moment came after the winners were revealed, Russell began signing things again and taking pictures. He was moving by in front of me, on the opposite side of the gate, sadly, and asked, "Can I have a hug?" Russell obliged and I out my head on his chest and he hugged me tightly and then as I slowly unwrapped my arms from around him, our arms slid against each other. As our right hands went past each other he grabbed my hand squeezed, we stared ar each other for a moment and I glanced att my hand to make sure I wasn't actually imagining it. "Thank you," I supplied and turned to leave with Alyssa since filming with the extras had been done for about an hour or two. I walked away slowly, heart pounding in my chest, the sense of weightlessness running through my body, and the sighing of a girl in love. I felt like skipping down the streets of New York and even now writing this I still get that feeling in the pit of my stomach. Alyssa, Lindsay and I wondered our way to find food around 3 something, not believing the world wind day we had had. I joked, "I shall never wash this hand" referring to my right one and we laughed. i only hope that when the movie comes out that I am and can find myself in th crowd shoots. We will see when the movie opens in 2010.
