on tuesday morning, my husband and i took in a view of I-5 that i'd never seen before.
the view looking north... in the southbound lane.
not even joking.
we were driving to work (we carpool) at 5:15am and it was raining. raining a lot. we had been traveling in the center lane and had just changed into the right hand lane when the car started hydroplaning. it was like ice... so smooth. the back end swung around and all of a sudden, we were going the same speed we had been, but sideways, facing east. about this point i made some sort of screeching noise. we somehow crossed all of the lanes of traffic, and eventually hit the back passenger bumper on the center divider.
when i finally come to grips with the fact that we just completed a 270 degree turn on the freeway, i realized that i was sitting eye to eye with two semi-trucks. and another was just passed us, having gone around us while we were spinning.
i kid you not.
the semi-driver in front of us got out to see if we needed an ambulance, but neither of us were hurt. we both were breathing pretty funny, but we were able to drive away. anthony just wanted to get off the freeway, and looking back at it, i can't blame him one bit. we drove to the closest exit and pulled into the nearby parking lot. i was able to keep it together while we were on the freeway, but as soon as we got to the exit, i was all tears. i think it was just the first shot of adrenaline wearing off. so, i cried for a bit and then we decided to get out and look at the damage.
a scuff on the bumper and a scuff on the mudflap. that was it.
holy cow. i expected the whole back end to be crumpled in. i even had looked in the back seat as we were on the freeway to see if the seats were pushed in. but it was hardly more than surface damage (we hit the bumper pretty hard though, so it's always best to get those fixed)
i'm just glad that we were both ok. the angels were up early that morning.
