every now and then i show up

well, the beavers lost tonight, schdeff is gone for the evening, and i'm waiting for the boy to call: sounds like a good time to update the journal.

saturday night live is on in the background. it's been forever since i've watched that show. i watched it fairly religiously in high school. in fact, there was a time where nearly every sentence that came out of my mouth contained some form of an snl quote. favorites include: "so it is" "canteen boy, would you like a mimosa?" "freshe pepper?" and "what is light urple? wow." my group of friends watched snl and ER together. it was nice because it was a community thing. it's crazy to think that i still see some of those friends on a regular basis (t-dogg every day at work!). that's the best way to watch tv... with a bunch of other people.

i went for a hike with the boy yesterday (friday). the trails weren't very hard, but it was good to just trek through the woods together and goof off. after bummin around for an hour and a bit, we came back to the park/day-use area to hang out. i learned how to play dominos (double sixes) and promptly kicked the boy's tail :) he beat me later on in the evening, so we're tied. guess we'll have to play again sometime in the future. i hope it wasn't beginner's luck! we played on the kids structure which included swinging on the tire swing... those things spin really fast! we played there until the pea gravel got to be too much for the boy's keen sandals. those two don't go together too well. afterwards, we went to starbucks for another round of dominos, hot chocolate, and chatting. i love that we can just hang together. we met halfway, so at the end of the evening, we both had to drive home. for some reason, i got SUPER tired on the way home, so i called the boy to have him talk me in. he's the best... who else would sing old outdoor school songs with me to stay awake? i mean, really. i'm the luckiest girl around.

one of the things that we chatted about at starbucks was about racial reconciliation and social justice, etc. it's interesting how different our experiences with these words are. he's had a chance to do a lot of learning about racial reconciliation as a part of his college ministry, while the groups i've been involved in have focused more on apologetics or theology as their "specialty". it's a good thing we're all working for the kingdom and that one part of the body can make up for where the other parts are lacking. we make a fairly good team as a result, as long as we remember to be patient with each other. we come from groups that operate on different ends of the spectrum when it comes to evangelism too, so again, it's like we have different pieces of the puzzle and together we have a more complete picture.

i think it's time for bed. i just yawned and my contacts are giving out. unfortunately, i just put some lotion on my hands that doesn't smell very good. i'll have to try to find a way to address that before i go to sleep. meh. until later...

tchau!
