What do I do?

What it is it about me that people seem to think it is ok to be threatening.

Today was a classic example.  This may sound tortuous but bear with me, my dead father-in-laws next door neighbour has rung to complain that there is noise for 2 hours every night between 11.30pm to 1.30am.  We appreciate this may be a problem which is why we have been up there at midnight twice in the last few weeks.

There is no noise not a single solitary sound.

So we ring the charming old boy and explain last week.  We say we have been, we have checked the house we have made sure everything is unplugged apart from the fridge.

Today he rang and Steve was at work.  He started moaning about the noise again.  I said "we have been up dragging our small baby out at night.  We heard nothing.".
"You should have gone in the house." he says.
"We did." I reply.
This conversation goes on for some time batting these same ideas at each other.  That yes we have been no we have heard nothing.  So the next gem was that a couple of nights he may not have heard this noise and clearly these were the nights we had been.

I agree yet again that we are willing to come again.  But then the threats of environmental health start, the police him having to move and get "nasty people" in there.  This is great but it doesn't affect us we don't live in that house.  I point out that now he is threatening me which he happily agrees he is because "it's very serious".

In the end I tell him I'm not appreciating the threats that we agreed that we would go up again.  Still the threats come about sorting things out one way or another so I tell him I'm ending the call thank him very much for ringing with his concerns but I refuse to be threatened on my own phone.

What do I do to inspire this level of mad people?  I always seem to get them.  I try to be polite and placate but seriously the next one will be told to take a leap!
