We all are who we are, and while it is important and actually (I think) good for our self esteem to try and change, grow into who we want to be, it's very hard to do. At least you recognize what you want to change!
I'm definitely more like your mother--don't fuss over me, I can do it myself, I'm not suffering. I don't like it in stories when one character fusses over the other too much, makes them seem like an invalid to moi.
"At least you recognize what you want to change!" hee! A complete list would take a whole lot more than an LJ post, believe me. I think it would be a whole lot shorter to list what I *don't* want to change.
OTOH, I'm slowly inching towards the saddish fact that we don't really exist, except as a bunch of neurons, and self is itself an illusion, and self-awareness even more so, and yet - you gotta work with what you got, amirite?
"I don't like it in stories when one character fusses over the other too much, makes them seem like an invalid to moi." *blink* Now that means a lot, coming from you, because you're like the Queen of h/c/slash. So... *Huh.* I need to re-read your work (and re-look at your icon!!!) and then have a think about that!
LOL--yes, I like the hurt and the suffering, light on the comfort in most of my stories. Generally, it's the other character talking to the sick/hurt one, not bathing or feeding him, that sort of thing.

And I too find that taking care of the little stuff can be a wonderful relief. Well done, you!

Seriously, you're doing very well at working with your environment. I'm very bad at that.
