So, for those not in the know, myself, Gaffney, and Mme. Vause decided
to trek across Georgia, Tennesee, North Carolina, and South Carolina
searching for the epitome of "country", "redneck", and "The South". I
believe at the end of the trip, while we only purveyed the surface, we
found our answers and want to go back.
Instead of telling you about the four day experience that simply can't
be conveyed on livejournal, I'm going to give you a couple highlites
and how myself and Gaffney were assimilated into Southern life.
Strange things I ate:
- Fried Green Tomatoes
- Sweet Tea
- Southern BBQ (Mmm....Oinkers...)
- Fried Okra (*gag*)
- Chic-on-a-stick
- More Street food than I ever wanted to eat
Place I want to live:
- Clayton, Georgia
Best parts of the trip:
- Four hours in a corn maze
- Circling Asheville, twice
- Games you'd never find in Clemson (Who wrote the song about the army
of Russian-American settlers of the Rio River circa 1854?)
- Angela waving her hands and screeching all the way down Sliding Rock and tourists videotaping us
Scariest Parts:
- Homeless people in Asheville
- The strange woman watching us at the "Road Kill Grill"
- Angela trying to convince Gaffney and myself to climb up the sketchy hill to get pickled peppers and papers notarized.
- Unexpected gifts in the hotels
Overall, it's sad to be back in Clemson but it was a great trip. If you
haven't just hopped in a car lately and found out all the cool stuff
you're missing, it's time.
