Supergirl in progress

Curious to see how a comic book cover gets made? Joshua Middleton posted process pics for the Supergirl #45 cover, starting with the initial thumbnail sketch for the concept, then the pencils, inking, and the first flat colors. He'll be updating with more pics as the coloring progresses.

Middleton does every stage of the art himself (pencils, inks, colors), so you really get to see the piece transform. He explains what he's doing in each pic, and includes some tips, too. Who knew that you could fix an inking mistake by scraping it off with an X-Acto knife?

Be sure to check out some of the finished pieces on his blog & website. Really beautiful stuff--he's one of my favorite artists. :)
