Two of my most favorite childhood books are movies right now. Where the Wild Things Are and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs...
There seems to be a VAST difference between how these books were thought about when they were being transformed for the screen. One was treated with love and respect while the other one seems to have been cannibalized only for the idea and title just to make some money from the 3D animation-loving audience.
How is it that in this miraculous day and age Spike Jonze make (what I will find out for sure next friday) is most likey a GORGEOUS live action representation of a beloved picture book but the 'geniuses' at Sony Pictures Entertainment can't stick to a beautiful illustration style for their animation?
Ok, do I need to be more specific?
ACCEPTABLE: Where the Wild Things Are
UNACCEPTABLE: Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?
The book is so lovely. The Barretts wrote and illustrated a PERFECT book (LOOK AT THAT LINE WORK) and now it looks like any other generic, ultra-slick, soulless computer generated piece of entertainment that appears untouched by human hands. It lacks ALL of the subtlety and care that the illustrations have. For shame Sony, for shame.
