I just had a Twilight Zone moment.
Background:
My company is part of the New York Times Co. They pay me. I have their benefits.
So with that in mind, I got a call from someone in the NY office asking how I did one of my Flash projects. I told her in relatively minor detail what was involved. One intro file plays a pretty movie which then loads the main presentation. It's a map with stars, click on a star and a new file is loaded into the left hand side of the screen. She's asking me how I did it, how long would a person take to complete this project, what resources are needed, etc.? So I tell her all this. She's looking to hire a freelancer because they don't have anyone there that can do this type of work.
Then she says, "are you available for freelancing?" - I reply that I usually would be open, but that I have a wedding to plan for the next 2.5 months and she says she understands having gone thru it herself. She goes on to explain that they pretty much want to copy what I did and just alter it slightly to by NYC based instead of Boston based. This would only require minor tweeking on my end. They expect to have it done in a week. I tell her that yes, I will considering freelancing for her and to keep me on their list. She ads me and will be considering who to hire to do this project.
Then I thinks to myself after I hang up the phone, "I am being considered for hiring by my own company that already pays me, to pay me again for doing a project I have already done for them." WOAH. Sign me up :P
