Dear Diary,
I just got back from a fab week of traveling with Clint, Clarence and Jonathon. We mostly stayed in Tokyo and Kyoto, but there was a cool day trip to Nara which I'd never seen before. I'll let the pictures tell the story!
We went to a beautiful park in Tokyo, right next to the Imperial Palace! Tokyo is so much warmer than Nagano.
There was a statue of Jose Rizal there, who I had never heard of. Apparently he's a very important figure in Filipino history, and, while visiting Tokyo, he stayed in a hotel that used to stand on this very spot.
We actually saw a whole bunch of maiko (apprentice geisha) when we were in Kyoto. They seem to attract a lot of attention to themselves; everywhere they went people were taking photos of them.
Green tea soft-serve in Nara. Yum yum yum!
Nara is famous for its deer. According to the LP, there are about 1200 deer living in the Nara Park area. In pre-Buddhist times they were seen as messengers of the gods, and today they enjoy the status of National Treasures.
You can buy deer biscuits to feed them, which they seem to like.
They are EVERYWHERE!
Nara is also home to the world's largest bronze statue, which is of Buddha. It's pretty big!
Well diary, that was my trip. It was so fun, although it felt way too short. The opening ceremonies for the new school year are on Thursday, though, so hopefully I'll have plenty to do next week, what with the new school year starting and all. Well, that's all I have for now!
Love,
Sara
