dark erotica: writers, visual artists and performers

Nov 21, 2005 09:13

I can't say I know much about the event or Nekusis, but it sounds great. I don't think I'll be able to get any artworks or writing ready in time (submissions due by the end of this week!), but I'm definitely interested in checking the 'zine out.

Nekusis, a local and independent queer-friendly small press, will be launching a "dark erotica" compilation, to be held at Breathless Nightclub (right on top of Venus Envy) tentatively set at Dec. 4, 5-9pm. (By "dark erotica", we mean things of a content considered alternative, unsavory, disturbing, fucked-up, or downright terrifying to mainstream audiences. This could include anything as light as BDSM, to blood play, to sex with fantastical creatures --such as demons, hence the name "succubi"-- to necrophilia. Let it be noted that Canada considers pedophilia and beastiality as pornography, and thus anything with such content is considered illegal.)

Nekusis is currently looking for the following:

{for the zine}
1) submissions of dark erotica (poetry and prose, no more than three pages for one poem, no more than 2000 words for prose, and no more than three submissions for each)
2) submissions of dark erotica art and photography (the club may not allow nudity, so make sure that your submissions --which should not exceed three per genre per artist-- are not all nudes)
3) rants, essays, or nonfiction about the nature or current state of dark erotica (not to exceed 2000 words)

{for the event}
1) stage performers (all stage performers should not have public nudity or overt bodily fluids; if the performance involves making a mess, eg. a food fight, the performers are required to give the club a deposit to ensure that the mess is cleaned up)
2) one or more DJ(s), either to bring their own equipment, or to contribute to the club's CD collection and commandeer the equipment with a set playlist that they believe would add to the atmosphere

NOTE: Those who've submitted to the zine have the option of hanging up their artwork or presenting their pieces on stage, and are given preference if they choose to do so.

We will be accepting submissions and presentation proposals until NOVEMBER 25TH.
