Wait a minute. You are a Disneyfan. Almost all long Dineymovies are based on existing books or tales. And almost all of them have side characters that weren't in the original story. Many Disney movies end different from the original stories.
true, I still prefer the books over the movies, though I do love the disney movies. I really love the art of both animation and story telling in disney. It's hardly true to characters or even storylines. But what I do love is that Disney makes interesting stories accessible for small children of this day and age. Peter Pan is a great example of this. Disney only used part of the peter pan story and made it more fluffy. Which is good, because the real story is probably a little above the 'belevingswereld' of the children off today. I believe most classics would not have been as famous amongst young people today if it wasn't for those cartoons
I actually think ALL disney cartoons are based on a book or a tale (not completely sure about that)
I think it is also a difference that I saw the movies in most cases before I ever read the books. Like I said... the stories in the books are still better (yes even than Disney.. especially the black cauldron)
But... I still love disney and what they do for the kids. And I even love their own narrative. I think they are the only ones I forgive for this sin ;)
Anyhow. I like Disney too, and I like what they do to classic tales and books. In many cases, the Dinsney movies are much better than the book (Mary Poppins), sometimes it's not (Alice in Wonderland), sometimes it's just different.
Sometimes I feel it's a pity that Disney's interpretation becomes the only one possible. If children see a picture of the djinn in Aladin and the Wonderland, and the djinn is not blue, they feel that it's wrong. But then, that is just how children are. The version they know must be the true version.
