Dear Me

May 23, 2014 17:30

lately you've been off, honey, have you noticed?

and it sounds so dry to say but

you've got a responsibility to the people around you.

and you've got a responsibility to you

and to sunny days and ice cream and walks out doors.

i guess i just find it a little painfully ironic.

you love that song so much, dear... sing along every time...

and then you crawl back into bed.

you shirk away from anything that might hurt you.

scared of anything you can't call safe.

you want to stay in shallow water your whole life?

well, you'll never learn to swim.

toughen up.

and try something.

i call you my hero most the time.

say you're one of the best, the strongest, all of that.

but my faith could use some backup, kid.

toughen up and try something.

you're capable of so much more

than anyone i've ever met and you've got these gifts

just falling out of your ass.

so what? so you can sit on them and fret.

so you can watch familiar movies and stay in again?

come on kid, let's go somewhere, let's do something.

let's set this town on fire before we run away.

and maybe this time, let's say we're running to something.

let's say we're running somewhere and

this time

we're gonna toughen up and try something.
