Elevator rides at work are meant to be a bit awkward. My lift ride on the way out of work today was in a whole new galaxy of discomfort. As I was leaving I held the doors to the lift foyer open for a man who I often see wandering around our level. He's a fairly large man and he looked slightly puffed, as though he'd be for a brisk walk. As the lift doors open you see straight into the full length mirror on its back wall. The man looks at the mirror, then turns to me and asks "Do you think I'm fat?". WHA? How am I meant to answer that? I mean, well yes, in all honesty I do. Of course I awkwardly mumble "uh no" to which he replies matter of factly "I think I am". Two floors and some awkward discussion of how it's no fun to have such unflattering mirrors in the lift he happily heads off in his own direction as if nothing strange has just occured.
