Twenty years ago... I was six years old and in first grade in Mrs. Field's class at The Paupack School. I only went to the Paupack School for one year, because after that they built a new school (Wallenpaupack Area North Elementary) that combined Paupack with a bunch of other small elementary schools. The Paupack School was literally a four-room schoolhouse, one for each grade 1-4. Actually I think there were only three rooms and one of them was divided for the first and third grades. There was no cafeteria or gymnasium. BUT none of that really mattered because there was the absolute awesomest playground ever. It was way bigger than the actual school and had a full baseball field, basketball court, and playground equipment, which most playgrounds do. BUT THEN it also had this little forest-y area in the middle where you could make forts and stuff, as well as a hill to sled on in the winter.
Ten years ago... I was sixteen and a junior in high school. I was driving the Fox to school and playing field hockey (not well) and playing clarinet in marching band (better).
Five years ago... I was 21 and a senior at The George Washington University (and today I've moved on to...oh shit.). I was living in Arlington with Kathryn, but our apartment had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. That was the last time I had my own bathroom, and I want one again, damnit. I was working at For Love of Children and had a fairly light class load. And of course I was doing Mock Trial (and today I've moved on to...oh bloody hell.). And I was probably eagerly applying to Teach for America at about this time.
One year ago... I was 25 and in my second year at GW Law. I was applying for jobs, interviewing, hating my class schedule, being annoyed by my roommates, hanging out with my non-boyfriend, and wishing I had more time to go to the gym. And that is exactly what I am doing this year, only with a slightly different haircut (Now With Bangs).
So far this year... (see above). *stabs self.
Yesterday I... went to lunch with my dad at his country club (I can't believe I just wrote that sentence) and went shopping with my mom and Aunt Barb. I bought two new pairs of shoes. I wasn't going to, but Barb is a very encouraging shopper, in a you-should-definitely-get-those sort of way. She is also the sort of shopper who has The Card for every store. So when you go to pay and the saleslady asks you "oh do you have our bonus/member/shopper,etc. card", you will hear from behind you "oh I have that one!" She literally has like every one.
Today I...went to Glen Rock, NJ for my the christening of Alexander, third baby of my cousin Jen and her husband. Glen Rock is one of those scarily perfect suburbs of New York City, the kind that look like they could be a set for Desperate Housewives. My cousin and her family have recently moved to a new home in Glen Rock (a few streets over from their old one). As my Uncle Barry, the proud grandpa, said: "not a bad place for only a million dollars." It really is suburban heaven (or hell, depending on your take). There were all these kids running around in khaki cargo shorts, eating cake. It was sort of like a Baby Gap ad. I don't mean that in a bad way cause I really love my little cousins. The newest one, Alex, is a super-well-behaved baby. He didn't cry like the whole time. And he's very smiley. Smiley baby with blue eyes. Me want one! (but have way too much debt. and no (real) boyfriend. hmmm, tricky).
Tomorrow I... skip my first two classes (whee! who cares about school?) and drive back to DC in time for the third one. Oh and then do work for like the rest of the evening because I've done nothing this weekend.
