I am so fucking annoyed with the voting system in this country and how fucking confusing and poorly organized and without infrastructure it is. Honestly, I am praising my excellent communication skills and education right now and wondering what the fuck shape I'd be in voting wise if I didn't have the degrees I have.
Why, you ask, is our dear friend Sara, paragon of democracy and generally ecstatic to vote so pissed off right now?
Michigan Primary is TOMORROW. Has my absentee ballot (which is in the mail) arrived? NO.
Even if the ballot does arrive, I will have to Fed-Ex it back, which is expensive, and should be free, because it is my fucking vote we are talking about here, and no-one should have to pay anything to vote, and even if I Fed-Ex it back it's not likely to get there before polls close tomorrow, and then I have not voted. My vote is not counted, kaput, useless, totally wasted.
FURTHERMORE, even if my vote miraculously does arrive at the Michigan Secretary of State in time, IT WILL NOT COUNT. Why?
Two reasons: They don't count absentee ballots unless the election is monumentally close.
NO DEMOCRATS VOTEZ IN MICHIGAN COUNT. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
The Democratic convention is barring all delegates from Michigan this year because of when Michigan chose to hold its primary. What is this?
IT'S BALLS. BIG STINKY MONKEY BALLS COVERED IN DUNG.
I asked both the clerk in Washington and the clerk in Michigan if I can vote in Washington in the caucus and primary and Michigan in the general election, only to be told that even though I'm being barred from voting in my own primary, that if I switch my registration from Michigan and then re-register, I must either register or vote in person. I don't want to vote the General Election in Seattle, because Michigan is a swing state and it always comes mad close to going republican, despite having a Democratic Governor and going for the Democrats in the last couple of presidential elections.
So basically, I'm being screwed out of voting the Primary, which is really important to me, because there is no centralized Voter Database that could simply and easily solve the problem of me living in one state and not being able to vote in my home state.
I must accept some blame for not sending in my absentee ballot request several months ago. However, it's been in the Ann Arbor Township offices for at least two weeks, and they did send me a ballot, according to them. Just not fast enough. Why didn't you overnight it motherfuckers?! WHY?! Is it that difficult?
GRRRRRRRRRR.
I encourage all of you to vote in your respective primaries, since it looks like I won't be able to.
The ultimate irony: I'm really annoyed by all of this, but I haven't really decided who I'm supporting yet anyway.
That Obama though, he's got a mighty chantable name.
