METRO NEWS BRIEFS: NEW YORK; Paramedic Is Charged With Groping Patient
A city paramedic was charged yesterday with groping an 18-year-old woman in the back of an ambulance as she was being taken to the hospital.
The man, Angel Cabrera, 40, of Wallace Avenue in the Bronx, was arrested on two counts of sex abuse.
The police said an ambulance picked the woman up at La Guardia Airport on Sunday afternoon and was taking her to Elmhurst Hospital when Mr. Cabrera, an emergency medical technician, molested her.
She reported the incident to the authorities that day, prompting an inquiry by the Department of Investigation -- which has jurisdiction over Mr. Cabrera's employer, the Fire Department -- that culminated in Mr. Cabrera's arrest.
Information on what the woman was being treated for and where she lived was not available, said Officer Theresa Farello, a police spokeswoman.
