We made it back home, semi-safe and sound. A good time was had by most of us, and only one of us spent any time in casualty... I will explain that in a bit!
First week we didn't really do much. I went down with the kids by myself as the other half had to work, so lots of chilling out to be done, apart from the time we spent digging out Grandad's garden. He used to have really big, well kept flower beds, but at 87, he's really not up to it now, and Dad just can't be bothered, so the weeds kind of took over.
We spent a day or so getting the worst of the weeds out so that when Hubby came down, he could lay the anti-weed membrane and then we would put bark chippings on top. This worked really well, as we could still make rom for the shrubs to come through, but not the weeds!
Hubby joined us all on the next Sunday, and brought the Step-son (12) down with him.
We thought we would have a nice day out, and went into the countryside a little way to a place called
Mead Open Farm. We enjoyed a morning of lamb feeding, bunny handling, adventure playgrounding and sheep racing (really. Honest. Sheep racing. I have a video, I will see if YouTube will play the game later!). The trouble came when we decided to let the kids go back on he adventure playground.
We were watching the baby girl like a hawk, because these climbing frames were HUGE! and she has absolutely no fear. Boyo, we watched a little bit less carefully, but still kept an eye on, cos he can be dozy, and was likely just to take a nose dive off of something because he wasn't paying attention...
Step-son, age 12, we thought would be fine. He's quite big enough to deal with himself in a playground. That's what thought did...
He decided to run after the two little ones, slipped on the bark chipping flooring, head-first into a low monkey bar, knocked himself back to knock the back of his head on the floor (which was thankfully covered in the soft bark chipping covering that had started the whole thing off...)
There was a fist sized egg over his right eye, his nose was smashed and his glasses had cut into the bridge of his nose by his left eye. All the kids have Von Willebrand's Disease, so the blood was pouring from his nose, so much that it was coming out of his mouth too...
Ambulance called, big panic, 3 hours later they decide there is no concussion, but probably a broken nose... Two big black eyes came out the following day and all the swelling spread round his eyes and nose. We spent the week with the elephant man!
Fun had by all that day!
Managed another fairly uneventful day out to Southend, which was grand. All day on the fun fair, and no hospital trips.
My friends decided we needed a girly night out away from all the men and kids, so we ended up in a nightclub on the Friday, dancing til 3! Ages since I have been out to a club, we ha a real blast!
Photos to come, when I get them uploaded, oh, and the wedding pictures I need to sort out too, although I will do a different post for the wedding, that was an interesting evening...
