Ok here's the situation...please please please take a few seconds to do this:
In Darfur (Sudan) there's a genocide happening. Over 400,000 people have been killed, 2 million are displaced, and approximately 3 million people are relying solely on humanitarian aide for food (aid that is not reaching them because of lack of security).
The UN (after an extremely long wait) just authorized a peacekeeping force, but the president of Sudan is rejecting them. The biggest problem is that the African Union, which has been trying to stabilize the situation themselves, can no longer hold out--and have said they are going to leave the region on September 30th if the UN peacekeeping force does not arrive.
This would be a crisis beyond proportions. If the AU leaves, and the UN does not take over, there will be nothing standing between millions of innocent people and machine guns.
