I won't try to write about break, because it would take me too long and I believe in writing about recent events in journals. In short, I had a great time with many friends and family members, and got to see
chibichazoo every day for over three weeks. This week is the beginning of my Spring semester, which class-wise will be awesome and easy, but otherwise will probably drive me insane. I'm taking yoga, swimming, cello and voice lessons, orchestra, and mathematical approaches to music. I'm really excited about that last one, because I feel like my academic mind rarely gets stimulated at this school, but our teacher is an amazing super-nerdy guy with degrees in piano performance, music theory, mathematics, and architecture, so it is guaranteed to be interesting. Five grad school auditions in addition to my senior recital will be intense stress-inducers over the next few months, so entries here will probably be few and far between. I needed a break after my (surprisingly uplifting) cello lesson today, though, so I thought I'd once again list what's on my plate. I am now off to put together folders of all the supplementary material I need to send to schools: resumes, recommendations, financial aid applications, etc. Basically I have to tell them why I'm wonderful and they should give me lots of money. Tonight I have to head back to school to practice Shostakovich 12 for orchestra tomorrow. I'm so excited; I get to sit 2nd stand in the Philharmonic (IU's top orchestra) and work with a great faculty conductor all semester! And to top it all off, we're doing Beethoven 9. Yup, I get to play one of the coolest pieces ever written as my last performance of my undergraduate career.
I think I've complained and gloated enough.
