Taxman/Curator/Taxman

If you're an artist living in Mexico, they could be one and the same.

Apparently, in Mexico visual artists can register with the Tax Administration Service to pay in kind. They must pass a qualification jury, and submit one or more works depending on how many were sold that year.

According to the USAToday article which has been chilling in my inbox since approximately this time last year, the Payment in Kind program has allowed the Mexican government to amass a collection of over four thousand works by world-class artists including Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, and Leonora Carrington.

Now that recording technology is cheap and accessible, it really seems that this program should be expanded to include performance works. Just sayin'.
