Amanda and Sarek should have their own spin-off, seriously.
Have I ever told you how much I ship them? Yes, I do!
You know, I'm totally a spock/mccoy girl, I could watch the two of them bickering the whole day but my favorite scene in JTB is that little sarek/amanda bit at the end when Spock asks Sarek why he married Amanda and he says something like:
"It was the most logical thing to do"
I think it speaks volumes about their relationship.
&hearts

Ooooooh, did you see it? I'm glad you did, so we can discuss it together(:
You know, I think It was....ok? I liked some stuff and but I seriously think the movie itself is waaaaay overrated. Before I go on, I have to say I have some issues with this new trek and its fandom and I might not be completely objective.
that it spock was not my favorite character. and how could he have been? he was not the spock i came to love.
Absolutely! Spock is my second favorite character on TOS(my first being McCoy) but I didn't give two shits about this new Spock. He wasn't Spock at all! And whole Uhura-thing came out of nowhere and I think they did it to boost ratings.
Spock is smart, witty, confident, while new!Spock was merely arrogant and, I dare say, annoying. Also, even Nimoy Spock, who is clearly supposed to be the same Spock we met on TOS, is quite OOC.
(Disclaimers: I LOVE Nimoy, Mr Nimoy is always awesome no matter the character he plays)
And I'm still disappointed by the lack of McCoy(and McCoy/Spock) scenes....I mean, TOS was all about the big three-Kirk/Bones/Spock- and his character barely had three or four scenes at all. It's......depressing.

But...I actually liked Pine's performance, and I was pretty surprised by that. I used to dislike Kirk(maybe because of my initial dislike of Shatner) therefore I wasn't expecting much but the guy played him well, I think new!Kirk was the one who most reminded me of his TOS counterpart(which is weird since he's supposed to be the one completely different because of his father's death).

Oh boy, I wrote too much....See? I'm bitching, again.
And I hate bitching.
Apparently heroes hasn't taught me anything :/

"It was the most logical thing to do"
and his smile there! it tells everything, it really is a great scene.

oh god, i love you, as far as i know we're the only two person in this fandom who have these feelings about the new movie <33
overrated is the first word that comes to my mind about the film as well. like you said, it's an okay movie but for me nothing more. after watching it i was kinda lost as to what the big fuss was all about.
i honestly don't think i had problems with the uhura/spock storyline but mostly because i quickly came to realize that this is not my spock so after that i kinda lost interest in his storyline.
yeah, the lack of mccoy/spock scenes was disappointing but i don't feel i could blame them for it, i mean it really was just the beginning of their story.

Well, I see what you mean but I can't help but feeling insulted by it.
I mean It's like they underestimated mccoy as character(therefore De as actor) which bugs me. A lot.

Also, I laugh at all those kids who are now trekkies and they've never seen an episode of TOS.

yeah, but for the general lack of bones, i think we could blame them :D just like you i've never really understood the whole kirk/spock shipping. clearly, those people were not watching the same show as i was, i mean seriously, it's obvious the real chemistry is between mccoy and spock but anyway i feel like they emphasized spock and kirk's relationship at mccoy's expense. he definitely wasn't such a solid member of the team as he should have been.
Also, I laugh at all those kids who are now trekkies and they've never seen an episode of TOS.
i'm not sure i could be regarded a trekkie either, i mean i've only seen tos and the new movie but that's about it.
oooh. and wrath of kahn which was great! have you seen any of those films made after tos? i've tried watching the first one, 'the motion picture', but it was awful! :D ... seriously i couldn't even finish it. wrath of kahn, on the other hand, was actually a good movie! obviously no star trek movie could have the same cheesiness as tos had but at least this movie made up for it by being enjoyable.

awww...I feel like hugging you!
Have I ever told how much I love running tosdaily with you? <33
We always get along fine aaaand we also have the same opinions, I don't think I could run it with someone else, really ;)

Well, I'm not a trekkie either(I don't speak Kligon) but I quite know TOS and TNG, because my mom is totally a trekkie and she would make me watch ST when I was little. And yes, I've seen ST movies(all of them, actually).
This summer they would air all the 10 movies(except the reboot, obviously) every monday evening on our national sci-fi channel. That was pretty cool, I had the chance to rewatch them and, like you, I didn't like the MP much but then I saw this really cute scene between Scotty&Kirk when they first laid eyes on the new!Enterprise.....It's touching, really.
Oh, yup I love Wrath of Khan but STIV is totally my favorite. I think you should give STIII and STIV a chance, they're both directed by the talented Mr Nimoy and there are many great Spock/McCoy scenes....Most of our fellow S/M shippers are convinced their relationship became canon after the celebrated mind meld......Definitely a MUST-see.

PS: I'm sort of depressed after reading this:
http://community.livejournal.com/sendhilfans/59715.html
(Not that I watch the show anymore but....I mean, he's been my favorite character since the very first episode, I'm *so* gonna miss him.
But I really hope Sendhil has a successful career, he deserves a better show).

*hugs*
your mom is a trekkie?! that's just awesome! :D mine couldn't possibly have been one, socialists quite understandably were not fond of the show, it was first aired in the late '90s.
i really did like wrath of kahn, i might watch the other movies as well. i'm glad i didn't give up on the film despite my initial experience with the motion picture.
yeah, i've heard the rumors, he was to be in the pilot with david tennant, in rex is not your lawyer which got me really excited but now jerry o'connel's got the role. so i don't know what this has to do with mohinder's character.
i've watched a couple of episodes this season. about four, maybe. actually some of them were okay. not okay as in good, but after the previous season they were well, okay.
sorry if my comment lacks cohesion, i'm suffering from caffeine-withdrawal.
