Ah, a little teasing's good for me -- whets my appetite, dontcha know? ;)

Interesting thoughts. I wish I could remember the episodes better, instead of seeing them mostly through the veil of nostalgia and my total lack of slash-goggles when I first watched the show as a preteen.

I've been very disappointed that the old Knight Rider episodes aren't available on hulu, which is where I've been doing most of my heist-style-viewing, recently -- Remington Steele, Leverage, Firefly... Oh, but then I thought "well, I've been watching McMillan and Wife on Netflix Watch Instantly" -- and there it is, instantly watchable! That's totally something I could watch while typing up the minutes from the meeting... *rubs hands together diabolically*

My pixies would be happy to hook your pixies up with the site they were getting the episodes from. If you want I'll send you an email.

Eeee!! I hope you have fun watching. I always feel weird squeeing about things because what if you hate it and, you know, think I'm a hopeless dork for liking it?? But, that's just me being neurotic, I know. :D

Sassy points out that pilot episodes are rarely good for pimping, because they don't show the full flowering of the squeeful things about the show, which is true, but the KR pilot is a lot of fun and it sets things up and there's a whole lot of yum in seeing Michael so possessive of KITT right from the start.

I think the reason that Michael thought that KITT was his car in the pilot is because in the beginning he's driving a very similar TransAm. I guess he thought they had just brought his car in and repainted it. Sorry if you got that - I just wasn't sure from reading your post. Can't wait for the story, but your thought on the subject are always fun to read too :)

Oh, yeah, clearly--but dude, there were *lots* of black TransAms in the world at the time. So he says, wow my car, someone *in a position to know* says that it just looks like his car and yet he keeps on insisting.

Which just makes me happy happy happy. :D

ETA: I've been continuing to ponder this--and of course for part of that time when he's claiming KITT so insistently, he's standing so that he can see the interior, which should be a *huge* screaming clue that it's not actually his car, even if from the outside they looked exactly alike. (Though, he'd already seen the *scanner* on the outside right?)

Sorry, I'm being all insistent and possibly on the edge of bitchy and maybe preaching to the choir here, but I really do think there's a lot more going on than not being able to tell his black TransAm from someone else's.

Are you sure that they didn't rebuild HIS car? I'm not sure why, but I had that feeling. That possibly doesn't make sense though...

I've thought that too and in some ways I like the idea--though it doesn't seem like they really had enough time (maybe a month or two while Michael was recuperating) to completely rebuild it in the new polymer and revamp the engine and put in the computer (and integrate it with all the car's systems) and redesign and rebuild the dashboard, etc.

Though they do put people working on it around the clock...so maybe. If they had all the parts designed and just needed to fit them in maybe they could have done that...hmmm....

(Though still--the scanner on the front seems like a bit of a giveaway that this isn't really Michael's car.)

Oh, you don't know what you've started! Honestly, I haven't watched the show in (a few) years, but now I have two episodes on my iPod, even though I own the boxsets as well, and can't wait for more of your stories! (I've printed off 'Afterburner').

Michael and Kitt - and I'm in the anthropomorphising camp - are just ... yes. The show is cheesy as hell, but I love those two together. My favourite episodes are where Michael has to fight for Kitt (Junkyard Dog - 'I can't, buddy, I can't') or Kitt has to rescue Michael (Knightmares). Or Michael relapses in terms of emotional development and rides roughshod over Kitt's feelings (KVK).

Now I have to dig out my KR icons!

Thanks for your fantastic stories, and more please!

Knight Rider is always fun to return to - some dialogue/plots beggar belief, but otherwise it is refreshingly grounded. I don't know if you have seen any of the new series - I haven't, I'm in the UK, nor would I - but they don't seem to get the charm of the original show. A shame.

I also love the episode 'Knight in Disgrace', where Michael and Devon are in cahoots but don't let Kitt - and because of him, Bonnie - in on the deal. The confrontation between Michael and Kitt - especially when Kitt just stops speaking to him - are priceless for fanfic writers!

And I've been inspired myself, in the dim and distant past. My handful of scenes are up at http://sadarticle.homestead.com/ if you would like to compare notes!

Oooo!! Thanks to the link to your stories!! I read the first one (Perfect Day) and their voices are all *wonderful*! I'm really looking forward to the others--I'm saving them as a treat for after work (and incentive to get my work done quickly).

I totally agree with you about Knight Rider being grounded, despite the silliness and cheeziness and downright implausibility of many of the plots. I don't know if you read the gen Knight Rider squee post, but it gets to a lot of what I just plain love about the show.

I haven't watched any of the new series yet either--though I gather that the episode last week (1x15) actually *did* catch the flavor of the original *and* had some great interactions with Mike and New!KITT. So I've got it on my iPod to watch at some point--though I don't have a lot of time for TV watching and I'd *way* rather watch the wonderful classic show. So I'm not sure when I'll get to it.
